About JULIE
Julie Matheney, MS, CCC, SLP, IBCLC knew when she was ten years old that she wanted to feed babies for a living. She earned her Masters in speech-language pathology and has worked in the field for over a decade. While most people assume speech therapists teach children who stutter or work on “r’s and s’s” with school aged kids, the bulk of her job is feeding and swallowing as part of a hospital based, rehabilitation team. The same things you speak with, you eat with! As a speech therapist, she has an in-depth understand of how the babies should be able to feed and how to train them to eat when feeding is a struggle. Over the past decade working as a therapist in the NICU, she discovered her passion for working with breastfeeding families and became an IBCLC board certified lactation consultant in 2017. She currently works part time as an acute care speech pathologist and lactation consultant at a local hospital and part time as a private practice lactation consultant in Los Angeles. Her passion is helping the babies feed while supporting families in their breastfeeding journey.
