Wondering how you can better support your immune system?
While there’s no approved treatment or cure for Covid-19, there are things you can do to boost your immune IQ/resiliency.
Dr. Bryant Esquejo, N.D talks about 3 phases of Immune system function:
- Prevention
- Inflammation/Infection
- Resolution/Immune
Today we are going to cover #1. PREVENTION
We are a big fan of prevention. Aside from wearing your mask when you leave home, practicing safe distance and washing your hands, lifestyle and diet plays a huge role in addition to following the CDC guidelines.
- Here are some foods that focus on gut health for immunity
-Eat your fruits and veggies (between 5-13 servings a day)
-Dark leafy greens contains Manganese, Calcium, Iron, minerals
-Mushrooms are a great source of vitamin D
- Herbs/supplements
-Vitamin C, Zinc, Astragalus, Ashwaganda (great for stress) Licorice, Elderberry, (as always, please talk to a naturopath beforehand)
- Fight inflammation with:
-higher doses of C, Zinc, and Selenium
- Alkaline your body with a glass of lemon water first thing in the morning to balance out your PH
Avoid inflammatory foods like alcohol, coffee, and processed foods
- As we continue to shelter in, we can find creative ways to exercise.
Regular exercise improves lung functions and is a great stress reducer. Breathe work, yoga, and other modalities that focus on the breath is helpful too.
Note: Please make sure to speak to your doctor or naturopath before starting any supplements or diets to create your wellness plan. You want to make sure you are taking the proper dosage. Also, some herbs and supplements may interact with contra-indicated prescriptions and other western medications.
Last but not least, make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. This is when the body repairs itself. If you would like to learn more about ways you can boost your immunity, please call the office, and we can put you in touch with practitioners who can support you!
